Flåm Railway prices 2026: what the round trip costs

The operator does not publish a fare table. You only see the price once you select date, passengers and train in the booking system. We did that on 21 September 2026 for three travel dates, each time for the round trip Flåm–Myrdal–Flåm. All prices are in Norwegian kroner (NOK), not euros.

The pattern is clear: midday is the most expensive, the first and the last train are a quarter cheaper, and in the winter timetable every train cost NOK 675. We queried the child fare for 29 September (one adult and one child together NOK 1,012, 1,215 or 1,350) – each time it was half the adult fare.

Rule of thumb: If your day allows it, take the first or the last train. For two people that saves NOK 450 compared with midday.

The booking system has five categories: adults, child 6–17, infant 0–5, and wheelchair spaces for adults and children. According to the operator there are no concessions for students, seniors or companions. There is no first class either – everyone sits in the same carriages.

Booking Flåm Railway tickets online: three ways

Which seller is the right one depends on where you board.

• Round trip from Flåm: with the operator at norwaysbest.com. The round-trip fare only exists for Flåm–Myrdal–Flåm. That is also where you book the packages with a hike, hire bike or zipline.
• One way, or connecting with the Bergen Line: via vy.no or entur.no. There you get the Flåm Railway and the Bergen Line on one ticket – for example Bergen–Myrdal–Flåm.
• Starting in Myrdal: If you board at the top and want to come back up again, you do not get a round-trip fare; you buy two single tickets.

The Norway’s best website comes in more than one language (we used the German version); you pay in Norwegian kroner. Tickets can normally be booked from 120 days before departure; if your date has not been released yet, look again later.

Is the Flåm Railway sold out in season?

Individual trains, yes. The operator’s booking calendar has a colour of its own for “sold out”, and the information on it is brief: if a departure is sold out, customer service has no extra tickets either. There is no waiting list. If your date is still a long way off, cancellations can free up seats again – the operator nonetheless advises switching straight away to another train or day.

How often that happens in July and August the operator does not say, and we do not claim to know. Only the consequence is certain: because your ticket is tied to one train, you cannot simply take the next one if yours is full.

Honestly: Booking early secures you the train, but not the weather. Up to 24 hours before departure you can get out again free of charge – if you are flexible, book early and decide the day before with an eye on the forecast.

Buying Flåm Railway tickets on site

In Flåm you can: the station has a ticket counter which, according to Bane NOR, is open daily from 07:00 to 19:00, plus the operator’s customer centre right by the station. But you only get what is still available – see above.

In Myrdal you cannot. There is neither a counter nor a machine there. If you board at the top, you need the ticket on your phone beforehand.

A special case for Interrail and Eurail: with an active travel day you get 30 % off ordinary single tickets. Those tickets are not sold by Norway’s best, however, but by Entur, staffed stations in Norway and the telephone service of Vy and Entur.

For infants up to five you select a separate category in the booking system; we did not query the price for it individually. According to the operator all dogs travel free. Bicycles and trailers need a bicycle ticket and a completed tag, which you get at Flåm station.

Each departure has up to two wheelchair spaces (maximum 70 × 120 cm, 300 kg including the person), bookable as a round trip via Norway’s best. The operator itself names two limitations: the stop at Kjosfossen is not wheelchair accessible, and from the carriage with the wheelchair spaces you cannot see the waterfall during the stop.

Cancelling or changing Flåm Railway tickets

For bookings with Norway’s best: up to 24 hours before departure you get the full amount back. After that there is no refund, and changes are no longer possible either. You cancel in your customer account or in writing by e-mail to the operator.

If you bought through Vy or Entur, their conditions apply – they depend on the ticket type. Read them before you buy, not afterwards.

And the tours on GetYourGuide?

We did not find a plain Flåm Railway ticket there; tour operators are not allowed to resell the operator’s tickets anyway. What does exist are day tours from Bergen in which the train ride is one component alongside coach and fjord boat.
