What a Jungfraujoch ticket costs

The operator's fare first: from Interlaken Ost you pay CHF 271.20 return in high season 2026, reservation included. From Grindelwald Terminal it is CHF 249.20, from Lauterbrunnen CHF 260.00. With a Halbtax or Swiss Half Fare Card the fare is halved – to CHF 140.60 from Interlaken. From 1 November the price drops to CHF 224.40. All of these are Swiss francs (CHF), not euros.

Buying Jungfrau Railway tickets online: how the booking works

The operator's booking process asks for four things, in this order: the date, the departure point, the train up and the length of stay at the top. From the length of stay – selectable from half an hour to nine hours, the “most frequent choice” being two hours – the system suggests the return train. Only after that do you enter the travellers and their discount cards.

On 24 September 2026 the first train from Interlaken Ost left at 07:04, then every 30 minutes until 15:34. The journey up takes 1 hour 37 minutes, the journey down 1 hour 39 minutes.

Important: The time on the ticket is not always the departure from your station. It is the boarding time at Grindelwald Terminal or at Kleine Scheidegg. If you start in Interlaken Ost, Wilderswil, Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald, the operator says to set off from there at least 30 minutes earlier.

Seat reservation: when it is compulsory

From 1 May to 31 October 2026 you cannot board the Jungfrau Railway without a reservation. It costs CHF 10 per person, covers the outward and return journey together and is also due for children. Outside this period it is optional; the operator “strongly” recommends it, because otherwise you wait for the next train when one is full.

• Only the last section. Only the Jungfrau Railway can be reserved. There are no reserved seats on the Bernese Oberland Railway, the Wengernalp Railway or the Eiger Express.
• Only as a package. Online you always book the reservation for the return journey. A single direction – for mountaineers, say – is only available at a Jungfrau Railways sales point.
• Follow blue. With a reservation you follow the blue signs at the stations, without one the yellow signs. You have to be through the turnstile at least ten minutes before departure. With a reservation you may board the Eiger Express no earlier than 15 minutes before your booked time.
• You can rebook. The reservation can be moved to another train up to 45 minutes before the start of your journey.

Online or at the ticket office?

The most important difference is in returning it: you cancel a webshop ticket yourself, free of charge, in the online customer centre until 23:59 the day before. For a ticket from the ticket office or a machine the operator charges a CHF 10 handling fee per booking, and you have to go back to the ticket office where you bought it. Once validity has begun there is no money back in any case.

You still have to go to the ticket office if you are taking a dog (CHF 30 for the section Eigergletscher–Jungfraujoch and back, not available online) or want to reserve one direction only. With the Swiss Travel Pass Flex, the day of travel has to be validated for the discount to apply.

Honestly: Don't buy weeks in advance. The Jungfraujoch is a fair-weather destination, and in fog you see a white wall for CHF 271.20. Book online the evening before, when the forecast and the webcam look right – until 23:59 you can still get out free of charge. In high summer the train you want may then be full; but the trains run every 30 minutes.

Jungfraujoch ticket in advance in euros: the Tiqets route

There is a third way between the ticket office and a guided tour: the ticket retailer Tiqets sells the plain train journey from Interlaken Ost as a mobile ticket, paid in euros, with the seat reservation included according to the provider. From the operator the same journey costs CHF 271.20 in high season, including reservation.

Honestly: Tiqets knows no Half Fare Card, no GA travelcard and no Swiss Travel Pass. If you have one of these cards, buy from the operator – with a Half Fare Card it is CHF 140.60, so around half. Even without a card it is €287.16 against CHF 271.20: convert at the day's rate before you book. As long as a euro is not noticeably worth more than a franc, the operator is cheaper, and at Tiqets you are paying only for convenience. Five reviews are also a thin basis, and cancellation there is only possible until before the booked time slot – read the conditions.

Day trip instead of a ticket: when it is worth it

Guided day trips run from Zurich, Lucerne and Interlaken, bundling the journey there, the mountain ticket and a guide. If you have no Half Fare Card, doing it on your own costs CHF 271.20 for the mountain ticket from Interlaken alone – the train from Zurich or Lucerne comes on top. Then a tour is a genuine alternative on price.

Honestly: A tour runs on the day you booked – even if the Joch is in cloud. Read the cancellation conditions before you book. Three questions that often come up at the ticket office

Is my Half Fare Card or GA travelcard valid?

The Halbtax and the Swiss Half Fare Card are valid on the whole Jungfrau Railways network. With the GA travelcard you travel free as far as Grindelwald, Wengen and Mürren; above that there is a discount. What each card is worth in francs is under Travel Pass, Half Fare Card and Swiss Travel Pass.

Is an SBB day pass valid?

As far as Grindelwald, Wengen and Mürren, yes. For the section above that you buy a connecting ticket – at half price if your day pass is one with a Half Fare Card, otherwise at full price.

Can I get up in a wheelchair?

According to the operator, the route Interlaken Ost – Grindelwald Terminal – Eiger Express – Jungfraujoch is step-free. Via Kleine Scheidegg you need to register by phone beforehand, because staff there have to help with boarding and alighting.
