Jungfraujoch pass: what each card is worth on the mountain

All prices from Interlaken Ost, return, 2nd class, in Swiss francs (CHF), not euros. The “you save” column compares with the full price of CHF 271.20 in high season.

The last row looks best, but only is if you have the pass anyway: the pass itself costs at least CHF 210.

Jungfraujoch Travel Pass: the Joch is not included

The Jungfrau Travel Pass – often searched for as “Jungfraujoch Travel Pass” or “Jungfrau Railway pass” – is valid for three to eight consecutive days of free travel in the Jungfrau Region. It ends at Eigergletscher. For the last section on the Jungfrau Railway you need a connecting ticket: CHF 63, or CHF 89 from 1 May to 31 October 2026.

What the pass covers

• Bernese Oberland Railway: Interlaken Ost – Lauterbrunnen and Interlaken Ost – Grindelwald
• Wengernalp Railway: Lauterbrunnen – Kleine Scheidegg – Grindelwald
• Eiger Express and Jungfrau Railway as far as Eigergletscher
• First gondola, Harder funicular, Schynige Platte Railway, the Lauterbrunnen – Mürren line, gondolas up the Männlichen
• Boats on Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, local buses in Grindelwald

Not included: the adventure activities on First (Flyer, Glider, Mountain Cart) and the Grindelwald mountain bus routes to Bussalp, to Waldspitz and up to Grosse Scheidegg. Watch the operating periods: in 2026 the Schynige Platte only runs from 13 June to 25 October, the Harder funicular from 3 April to 29 November.

When the Jungfrau Travel Pass pays off

The individual prices for comparison, each return on 24 September 2026 according to the operator's price calculator: Harder Kulm CHF 44, Grindelwald – First CHF 76, Wilderswil – Schynige Platte CHF 68, Interlaken Ost – Mürren CHF 39.20. Half that in each case with a Half Fare Card.

Rule of thumb: Without a Half Fare Card the Travel Pass already pays off with one additional mountain – Jungfraujoch plus Harder Kulm cost CHF 315.20 bought singly, CHF 299 with the pass. With a Half Fare Card it only pays off if you really do ride several railways and the boat every day for three days.

Honestly: If you are only going up the Jungfraujoch, the Travel Pass is the most expensive solution: 210 + 89 = CHF 299 against CHF 271.20 for the normal ticket. Don't buy it “just in case”. And three consecutive days also means three days of weather risk.

Halbtax and Swiss Half Fare Card: 50% all the way to the top

The Halbtax and its counterpart for visitors from abroad, the Swiss Half Fare Card, are valid, according to the operator, on the entire Jungfrau Railways network – including in the tunnel up to the Jungfraujoch. From Interlaken Ost you pay CHF 140.60 instead of CHF 271.20, in November CHF 112.20 instead of CHF 224.40.

The Swiss Half Fare Card costs CHF 150 and is valid for one month. The Jungfraujoch trip alone saves CHF 130.60. So you are CHF 19.40 short – you make that back with the next train journey of around CHF 39 at full price, one trip up Harder Kulm for instance. Your own children aged 6 to 15 travel free with the free Swiss Family Card; at the Jungfraujoch they then pay only the reservation.

Rule of thumb: One day at the Jungfraujoch plus any other train journey in Switzerland – and the Swiss Half Fare Card has paid for itself. It is the card that is worth most at the Jungfraujoch.

Swiss Travel Pass and Berner Oberland Pass: free to Grindelwald, then 25%

With the Swiss Travel Pass you travel free as far as Grindelwald, Wengen or Mürren. Above that there is a discount: from Interlaken Ost that leaves CHF 189.60 in high season and CHF 151.20 from November. With the Swiss Travel Pass Flex the day of travel has to be validated, otherwise neither the free journey there nor the discount applies.

The Berner Oberland Pass works the same way at the Jungfraujoch: travel as far as Grindelwald or Wengen included, 25% off from there. If you also have a Half Fare Card, that becomes 50% according to the pass provider.

Honestly: SBB advertises the Swiss Travel Pass with 50% off mountain excursions – at the Jungfraujoch, according to the operator's price calculator, it is only around 25%. If you want to buy the Swiss Travel Pass mainly because of the Jungfraujoch, you get up more cheaply with the Swiss Half Fare Card: CHF 140.60 instead of CHF 189.60.

GA travelcard, Eurail and Interrail

With the GA travelcard you travel free as far as Grindelwald, Wengen and Mürren; above that there is only a discount. From Interlaken Ost that comes to CHF 126.60 in high season, CHF 98.20 from November. With a Eurail or Interrail pass the price calculator shows CHF 185.00 and CHF 147.40 respectively.

An SBB day pass is valid as far as Grindelwald, Wengen and Mürren. For the section above that you buy a connecting ticket – at half price only if the day pass is one with a Half Fare Card.
